Martha and Hayley arrange the viewings, usually through a joint WhatsApp group. Further viewings carry a fee that comes off the price if you buy. A vetting is at your discretion, and if you have one it is completed within five business days of the viewing. The bill of sale is signed within twenty-four hours, and the horse is sold when funds clear.
Martha and Hayley arrange it with you, usually through a joint WhatsApp group, so you are talking to both of them from the start. Hayley shows you the horse, and Martha is there as well when she is in the US. There is no charge. Come yourself, send your trainer, or bring both.
A second or subsequent viewing is $150, and it is deducted from the sale price if you buy the horse. A repeat viewing takes several hours out of our team's day, so the fee is there to make sure that time is well spent. If you buy, it costs you nothing.
A vetting is at your discretion. Some of our buyers have one and some do not, and it is entirely your choice.
If you do have one, it is completed within five business days of the viewing. The vet is yours, not ours. We will not vet a horse we are selling you, because the person selling a horse should not be choosing the person who examines it. If you do not know a vet locally we will give you names, and then we step back. It is the same rule we apply to ourselves when we buy in Ireland, where the vet is ours and never the seller's.
The five days are there because a horse held for one buyer is a horse not being shown to another. If they go by and the vetting has not been done, we go back to showing the horse to other buyers, and we will tell you before we do.
Once the vetting is done, or you have told us you are going ahead without one, the bill of sale is signed within twenty-four hours. Katie signs it for Dunedin. The sale completes when funds clear. The horse is not sold before that.
Once funds have cleared, the passport comes to you. If you collect the horse yourself, we hand it over at the same time. If a shipper collects the horse, we send the passport to you directly.
Most of the worry in buying a horse is not the horse. It is not knowing where you stand, who else is looking, or what happens next. So we have written it down. A seller who will not tell you the rules has told you something.
Enquiries are answered personally by Katie, Hayley or Martha.
